About Culinary Art

14. 10. 2026

The Vojtech Löffler Museum cordially invites you to the ceremonial opening of the exhibition About Culinary Art, which will take place on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at 4:00 PM in the museum premises at 20 Alžbetina Street in Košice. The event is accompanied by this year's Days of Czech Culture 2026 festival.

The exhibition, prepared in cooperation with the Scientific Library in Olomouc, presents the most precious culinary publications from its collection over the last five centuries. These historical prints served not only as sources of recipes but also as guides to social behavior and cultural customs.

Visitors can look forward to 27 selected titles, including the oldest printed cookbook from 1503 De honesta voluptate by the Italian humanist Bartholomeo Sacchi, as well as the original work Německá spižírna by Hyeronimus Bock with unique colored woodcuts. The Czech culinary tradition is represented by the oldest Czech printed cookbook Kuchařství by Bavor Rodovský of Hustiřany from 1591 and works by the legendary Magdaléna Dobromila Rettigová, including samples of her recipes.

The exhibition will run until November 28, 2026. We look forward to your visit.

The event is organized in cooperation with the State Scientific Library in Olomouc, CzechTourism, the Czech Association in Slovakia, the Czech Association in Košice, and the Czech Centre Bratislava, with financial support from the Fund for the Support of the Culture of National Minorities of the Slovak Republic and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Czech Republic.
